THE STADIUM

Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium opened on September 26, 1959, built to give the Midshipmen a permanent home field after decades of playing at neutral sites. Its name honors the men and women of the Navy and Marine Corps who gave their lives in World War II — making it one of the few stadiums in America named not for a donor or a sponsor, but for the fallen.

The stadium sits about one mile west of the Yard on Rowe Boulevard, with a current capacity of approximately 34,000. It is home to Navy Football, Navy Men's Lacrosse, and Navy Women's Lacrosse.

NAVY FOOTBALL

Navy Football's most celebrated moment came in 1963, when quarterback Roger Staubach won the Heisman Trophy — the only Naval Academy player ever to do so — before reporting for five years of active duty. The Army-Navy Game, one of the oldest and most storied rivalries in college football (dating to 1890), has been played here and at neutral sites including Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field. Navy's 2015 team, led by Keenan Reynolds — the all-time leading rusher in college football history at the time — won 11 games and the Military Bowl. The program has produced Rhodes Scholars, astronauts, admirals, and one President.

NAVY LACROSSE

Lacrosse has deep roots at the Naval Academy, with both the men's and women's programs routinely contending for Patriot League titles and NCAA Tournament berths. The 2026 women's program — coached by Cindy Timchal, the winningest coach in NCAA Division I women's lacrosse history — finished 20-2 overall, earned the No. 6 national seed, and reached the NCAA quarterfinals. The men's program finished 7-7, competing in one of the nation's toughest lacrosse conferences.
